My 1 year old dog ate a chicken wing whole. Should I be concerned?
I was eating a box of spicy chicken wings, when one of the wings slipped out of my hands and onto the floor. I quickly scrambled for it, but my dog got to it first. I tried to grab him by his muzzle to pull it out of his mouth but he moved quickly and swallowed it whole. I bit into it, so the bone was showing but not broken. I know broken bones can hurt a dog, but the bone was not broken and he swallowed it whole that way. I heard somewhere that cooked chicken bones can also hurt a dog, and this was cooked.
I will definatly keep an eye on his droppings and his mood for the next few days, but I want to know if there’s anything else I should do such as change his diet.
He’s a medium/largish sized dog and he had no problem swallowing it, he actually enjoyed it. It’s been about an hour and he’s shown no changes.
I would call your vet to make sure, but my beagle has done that exact thing and she was fine. Depending on the spices, it might trigger some gas or his mood to change, but that’s about it. The bone should be fine, unless of course he chewed it and broke it without you catching site of it. Call your vet to see an average cost of an x-ray to make sure that it isn’t broken inside of him, and if you can’t pay that kind of money, just let it go and make sure that it comes out eventually.
