My son got bit by a dog. What next – Legally?
Monday at 7pm. My dog got out of the house and ran upto a neighborhood dog on a leash with a lady. Right on the sidewalk. The dog was Medium sized shaggy kinda dog.
My boys chased my dog retrieved her from the lady and dog. My dogs kind and never growled or was mean to the other dog.
The ladies dog slipped out of its collar and bit my son on the calf. 3 holes, the biggest being about 4cm. I
He cried and told the lady, and she said “youll be fine, quit wasting my time” or something like that. I drove around for 20 minutes and I never found the lady. It was bleeding
The animal people just called me and said the dogs upto date on all the shots. And is being quarintined<---- what for?
My sons leg hurts and it obviously got deep enough to hit his calf muscle. It could have been worse but it was by far not a "ok" bite. I took pics just in case.
So yeah, what kind of legal grounds do I have. Can i sue? Can I call animal control for the ladies name.
WHAT SHOULD I DO
Your son was hurt but not seriously and did not go to the hospital. There isn’t any reason to sue the lady because your son was not hurt substantially. The dog has been taken in and tested by the authorities (they are holding him to confirm he is not sick) which means the lady has been punished. She will be fined for the dog bite by the authorities and she will have to pay a fine to the pound for holding her dog. There isn’t much left for you to do here, you can’t sue the lady (your son was not hurt) and the lady has been punished.
