if you swich from a choke chain to a normal lead?
Just for walking purposes, I have started using a choke collar for my dog. It seems to be working.
If i switch back to her nylon collar/lead for walking, will she revert to her old pulling ways, or will the choke chain have tamed her for good?
Depends on your training method. Are you using a corrective tug and insisting she walk at the heel? Or are you just counting on the pain of the collar to keep her from pulling too much?
You actually have to train the dog to walk on a leash. If you use a choke collar (also known as training collars) to train her, you should be able to switch to a nylon collar and have her walk nicely. You can give the corrective tug with a nylon collar and she will respond. If you are not training her, (letting the pain of the collar do all the work), she will go right back to pulling in the nylon collar.
Consider getting a training book or into a class. I really recomend classes because they teach you how to train her without driving you both nuts. Petsmart has a really good program, so do Parks and Recreation department of most cities. They’re cheap and good if you can find one.
