Do the anti-bark collars work on a growling dog? My dog rarely barks, but she growls at other dogs.?
When she barks, she’s already in attack mode. So I want to stop her from the moment she starts growling. Wondering if those anti-bark collars would do that.
The anti-bark collars you are thinking of are meant for dogs that are problem barkers. It sounds like what you are looking for is something to tell you when your dog is about to get aggressive with another. I don’t believe that the anti-bark collar will work on growling as it is noise activated and a growl is usually too low to cause the collar to work.
The best way to stop your dog from being dog aggressive is to watch her body language. When you see another dog coming you will be able to see telltale signs from your dog. Her body will stiffen, her tail may go up or straight out and if you can see her mouth you may notice that her mouth will be closed and you may see the start of a lip curl. Any and all of these signs are a good indication that your dog is becoming aroused. This is the time to do some training with your dog or cross the street and move away from the distraction.
I would suggest some dog training aimed at teaching your dog some socialization skills. A good obedience class or a session (or two) with a behaviour consultant would probably do the trick.
